PUSO FESTIVAL

"Puso" (hanging rice) is a dish originating from the province of Cebu in the Philippines, a local form of the Ketupat found in other parts of the Malay world. It consists of rice wrapped in coco leaves which is then boiled. It is served by slicing the coco leaves in half exposing the rice. Puso rice pieces are strung together and servers just cut them off and slice them in half for serving, hence the term “hanging rice.” Local stories passed down through the generations have attributed the creation of this style of rice preparation to the Cebuano seafarers' need to keep cooked rice from spoiling during long sea voyages.

And yes, it is spelled as "Puso" like the Tagalog term for "heart" but with a different stress, a Cebuano stress. 

"Puso" is a commonly known business in the old Inayawan public market which has been passed on from generation to generation. 

This coined the recently concluded "Inayawan Puso Festival". The basic dance steps replicates the step by step  process of "puso" making: "la sa lukay, buyok sa bugas, pabukal, dayon ibaligya."






With overwhelming pride,SITIO LOWER LOMOY, bragged the 1st ever Puso Festival Champion's trophy, Best in Festival Costume and Best in Andas. Junary Atillo, beat all 6 Inayawnon beauties by ripping the "Festival Queen" award (Gabisan represent! wooot!! wooot!!) with 3 "standing o's" from all 3 judges. As per the hosts, it was all a unanimous decision.

Isayaw ta ang "puso" sa Inayawan, sayawon ta ang puso festival. Panginabuhi-an sa matag inahan, bunga sa kakugi ang kalambuan sa Inayawan!"
